The full wording around the cast stone base is An
Embrace of Chinese Whispers, Pass it on. A four sided figure, which
started as a hug, then became an embrace and then looked like a group
whispering. So the title was very much like the sculpture, in that it
grew as Lily worked on it.
As a fountain, Chinese Whispers is great surrounded
by gravel or stone, although there is one in a London garden which is
on a brick plinth in the middle of a deep circular pond. The pond was
built just for the figure, and it looks great.
Chinese Whispers appeals to those who enjoy something
a bit different in their gardens. Also to those who like to see bird
life busy around water ; birds love the busy water as it bubbles around
the concave top, and down through the hair. Without water, Chinese Whispers
is striking simply as a group of figures.
HOW IS CHINESE WHISPERS CAST?
The group hug is bolted to a cast stone base, with
a copper pipe cast into the centre which connects to a pump in a water
reservoir underneath. It is cast in bronze resin, and the hair is usually
finished with a verdigris patina.
